What’s normal, what’s not! Facial palsy

Viruses, infections and even tumours can cause weakness to facial muscles, resulting in paralysis. Symptoms may include pain behind the ear and a drooping mouth and your sense of taste may be affected. Facial palsy may clear by itself, but you may be prescribed painkillers and, if you can’t blink, artificial tears. Facial massage may help. If it doesn’t get better on its own, surgery is an option.
